Message from Zak

Approach

My approach to therapy is centered around helping individuals transform adversity into strength and strife into meaning. By using a blend of psychodynamic theories, expressive interventions and behavioral approaches, I help you to address problems in such a way that you can create lasting and impactful changes to behaviors and emotions. I apply a holistic framework to all therapies I practice. I assess and treat the mind, body and spirit. I hope to help you realize you lead a life worth living.

Therapeutic Alliance

I am a firm believer that the core foundation of positive therapy outcomes is a strong therapeutic alliance. Having someone in your corner who puts trust and faith in your ability to heal your wounds is invaluable. I strive to craft a space for you that is comfortable, judgement free, and conducive to you unlocking your potential to heal into wholeness. As a social worker, it is my duty to meet you wherever you are in your life and to walk alongside you on your path -- wherever it may lead.

Areas of Interest

I specialize in working with young adults and adults who are experiencing depression, anxiety, transitional stress and trauma. I seek to help impart useful coping skills alongside helping you analyze the roots of your problems -- may they be personal, relational or otherwise -- in an effort to assist in leading you to creative solutions for complex experiences.

Vulnerability is a superpower, and therapy is a space in which we learn to be vulnerable in a whole new way.

Creative Interventions

Outside of the therapy room, I am an artist and a musician. Both of these have brought an immeasurable amount of healing into my life. I strive to bring my creativity to therapy by using depth psychological and creative interventions such as art therapy tools, expressive and music therapies, and bibliotherapy tools. “A picture is worth 1000 words” is not just a phrase. Creative interventions provide a ripe environment for symbolic expression of our unconscious minds. Using expressive and depth psychological models, I help you analyze and process experiences through symbolic and creative work, alleviating the pressure of having to verbalize experiences that are impossible to capture with words alone.

Vulnerability

Vulnerability is a superpower, and therapy is a space in which we learn to be vulnerable in a whole new way. Living into vulnerability means we come more into contact with our true selves and the realities of our experiences. Being vulnerable about our experiences of depression, stress, trauma and anxiety can leave us feeling exposed. I hold safety for my clients as a top priority in therapy, and will continually adjust and orient myself to helping you feel as safe as possible in processing your experiences so you may continue to develop your sense of vulnerability and continue to learn who you are underneath the pain you experience.

Thank you, Zak, for your understanding and skill in helping me face my issues.

I was able to open up -- for the first time ever.
